About The Boat
History Of The Boat
Vivakay was built by British craftsmen in Newhaven, Sussex to an exclusive design to the same shipwright who built Blondie Hasler’s boat Jester.
She is of traditional carvel construction with iroko planking below the waterline and mahogany above, on steamed solid oak frames.
She is extremely strong, sea-kindly and safe blue water cruiser. Built over several years, she was first commissioned in 1980 for her previous owner, a retired British Airways captain.
Meticulously maintained but very little used by her elderly owner, she passed into her present ownership to be used for what she was really designed to do - ocean sailing.
She was originally purchased for a specific task which she accomplished admirably, namely a double crossing of the Atlantic with visits to the Azores and Bermuda en route. A long - held ambition was fulfilled by her owner and saw VIVAKAY being sailed 8500 miles in 4 months sabbatical
She has recently been refitted and overhauled with much new goods. She sailed to Lisbon and back this summer (2007)
Her sails are small, she is easily managed by two and has a powerful and reliable engine. She has been totally overhauled and refitted and is ready for your survey and your cruising delight…
